Matthew A. Fisher is a distinguished partner at Lecker & Associates and a prominent employment lawyer based in Toronto. Joining the firm in 2008, Matthew has dedicated his career to exclusively representing employees in various employment law matters. He became a partner in 2016, collaborating with Bram Lecker to lead the firm’s exceptional team of employment lawyers and support staff.

Matthew’s employment law practice encompasses a wide range of cases, from wrongful dismissal and constructive dismissal to job layoffs, severance package negotiations, and workplace conflict resolution. With a strong track record of appearances before key tribunals and courts – including the Ontario Court of Appeal, Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, Ontario Labour Relations Board, and Canada Labour Code Adjudication Board – Matthew has secured significant victories in landmark cases that have helped shape Ontario’s employment law landscape.

In 2014, Matthew successfully represented the Plaintiff in Felice v. Cardinal Health Canada, setting a new standard for notice periods awarded to short-service executives and senior managers. The Ontario Superior Court of Justice awarded the Plaintiff 12 months of notice after just 19 months of employment, a decision that has become a pivotal reference for employment lawyers advocating for similar cases.

Matthew’s expertise was further demonstrated in the high-profile Court of Appeal case Keenan v. Canac Kitchens in 2016, where he secured an unprecedented 26 months of notice for two workers wrongfully classified as independent contractors. The case garnered significant media attention, being featured in a front-page article in the Toronto Star, and was recognized by Law Times as one of the Top Cases of 2016.
